As part of Disability and Inclusion Month, the Lab’s All Access Employee Resource Group is showing “Fixed,” a documentary that questions commonly held beliefs about disability and normalcy by exploring technologies that promise to change our bodies and minds. Told from the perspective of five people with disabilities, “Fixed” will be shown at noon, Oct. 5 in Perseverance Hall.
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team launched a Lab-wide diversity conversation challenge 13 months ago. The program, “Inclusion Starts With a Conversation,” released a new video each month, challenging people to discuss the topic.
Over 400 employees stepped up to the challenge, and in turn, asked others to join the conversation. Congratulations to those who started us talking.
A brown bag session on reclassification and promotion takes place Wednesday, Sept. 19, from noon to 1 p.m., in Perseverance Hall (50-130). LaTonja Wright, an HR division partner will help attendees gain a better understanding of the Lab’s reclassification and promotion process and the tools used to assist in position analysis. The event is sponsored by the LBNL African American Resource Group.

The Oscars-style celebration on June 9 filled the Building 50 Auditorium to capacity with family, friends, and colleagues who cheered as each awardee took center stage. Sixteen women were recognized for their professional accomplishments and contributions to STEM outreach. “The best science is done when you have diverse voices,” said Director Witherell at the ceremony. Nearly 50 employees joined the Berkeley Lab contingent at the recent Pride Parade in San Francisco. The group — sponsored by the Lab’s Lambda Alliance — was among thousands of participants in the parade, and was broadcast by a local news organization. Sixteen women from across the Lab areas have been selected as “Women @ The Lab” honorees. The program recognizes women at the Lab who demonstrate dedication, talent, STEM contributions, and commitment to the Lab’s mission. An awards ceremony will be held on Monday, July 9, at 3 p.m. in the Building 50 Auditorium. All employees are invited.
Celebrate the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community by participating in one of several Lab events that have been scheduled, including movie screenings, talks, networking sessions, and fairs. The month of June was chosen for LGBTQ+ Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969.
