In my first year at the Lab I have relied heavily on my strong senior leadership team in directing this complex research enterprise and in planning our future program. The Deputy Director, Chief Operating Officer, and I work closely together to improve the support for research across the Lab, while each Associate Laboratory Director directs a large research portfolio with a strategic approach designed to match the specific area of research.
To align his title with the scope of his job and the way the central leadership team operates, I am appointing Glenn Kubiak as the Deputy Director of Operations. Improving the Lab’s physical infrastructure and providing efficient operational support are central to our ability to remain a world-leading research institution. Those of you who have been here for some time will recall that the Lab had this leadership structure for much of its past. It reflects the fact that Horst, Glenn and I are working every day as a team to make sure that the operations effort is rigorously tied to the research needs across the Lab.
Please join me in congratulating Glenn on his appointment to Deputy Lab Director of Operations.
