May 22 Wildfire Awareness Event Along Grizzly Peak Boulevard

Representatives of local and regional fire-response agencies will meet at the site of last year’s Grizzly Peak Fire from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, May 22, to discuss fire preparedness and prevention efforts. The meeting also highlights the extensive planning and coordination among these agencies to minimize the threat of wildland fire, as well as the multi-agency approach to wildland firefighting.

Plan for the possibility of traffic slowing and delays from about 9:30 a.m. through 1 p.m. along Grizzly Peak Boulevard. The event is planned at the “MP 16” marker along Grizzly Peak Boulevard, south of Centennial Drive and north of South Park Drive. Also note that emergency vehicles will be traveling to the site and will be parking along Grizzly Peak Boulevard around the time of the event.

The event is coordinated by the Hills Emergency Forum, which includes participation by Berkeley Lab, UC Berkeley, the cities of Berkeley and Oakland, East Bay Regional Parks District, and other area agencies.
