Bike-to-Work Day is May 10; Tips and Resources for a Great Ride

Bay Area Bike to Work Day is coming up this Thursday, May 10. If you’ve been wanting to try biking to the Lab, there’s extra incentive on Thursday when Bike East Bay sets up 143 “energizer stations” throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties—stop by for refreshments and free giveaways on your way in (check out the Energizer Station map more information.)

Whether you’re a cyclist or not, it is important to consider how we all play a role in keeping our roads safe. Safe cycling requires the conscious efforts of cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists. Go here to learn more about how to help foster road safety for all.

Want to participate in Bike to Work but intimidated by the Lab’s hills? Try the Lab shuttle. Not sure how to use the shuttle’s bike racks? See these instructionson the Lab’s Bus Services page. Or ask a friend or co-worker who’s familiar with using them to show you how.

If you’d rather not deal with putting your bike on a shuttle, another option recommended by Berkeley Lab cyclists is parking your bike at UC Berkeley or at the downtown Berkeley BikeStation and then catching the Lab shuttle. (BikeStation offers free bike parking in a secured indoor space from 7 a.m.–9 p.m.)

If you do feel energized to bike all the way up the hill to the Lab, there are 21 Lab buildings with shower facilities—you can find one near you on the Lab Showers page.
