Adel Flores Named New Chief Audit Executive

floresAdel Flores will serve as the new Chief Audit Executive, Head of Internal Audit Services for Berkeley Lab. This position reports administratively to the Lab Director and functionally to the UC Regents through the UC Chief Compliance and Audit Officer. The mission of Internal Audit Services is to enhance and protect LBNL organizational value by providing risk-based and objective assurance, audit, and investigation services. Prior to joining Berkeley Lab, Adel gained public accounting experience at KPMG in San Francisco and the Arthur Andersen group in Manila. Adel has 23 years of experience at the University of California Office of the President and Berkeley Lab, and was a member of the original team that formed the Internal Audit department at Berkeley Lab in the early 1990s. Adel briefly left the Lab in 1998 to manage the Internal Control department at Advanced Micro Devices in Sunnyvale, CA, and Austin, TX, where he was responsible for audit of internal controls in the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Germany. His wide audit experience includes leading internal audit departments with emphasis on program effectiveness and risk management reviews, contract performance and fraud investigations. Adel is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner, and Certified Information Systems Auditor.
