Lockowandt Appointed as New K-16 Educational Programs Manager

Mara Lockowandt has joined Berkeley Lab as the new manager of K-16 Educational Programs, part of Public Affairs’ Workforce Development & Education department.

As the former Director of School Partnerships at the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts in Richmond, Lockowandt oversaw professional development and training for public school teachers, fundraising and evaluation. She also led the advocacy efforts for equitable programming by researching the tools and implementing the techniques aimed at closing the achievement gap for students-of-color and students living in poverty.

Prior to this role, Lockowandt worked as an evaluation consultant and visiting lecturer at Royal Holloway, University of London. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of London and an MA from King’s College London.

At the Lab, Lockowandt will oversee the strategic development and implementation of innovative STEAM (A = “Art”) programming across the East Bay. The K-16 programs reach nearly 2,000 students each year, focusing on student populations historically underrepresented in STEM careers.
