Mexico City Mayor-Elect Claudia Sheinbaum Visits Lab

Mexico City Mayor-elect Claudia Sheinbaum (left) visited the Lab on Nov. 9 as part of a visit to the Bay Area to learn about electric transportation and waste recycling. Sheinbaum spent four years at the Lab (1991-1994) analyzing energy consumption in Mexico and other industrialized countries. She and Lab scientist Lynn Price (right) were lead authors of the Industry Chapter of Working Group III (Mitigation)’s contribution to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth and Fifth Assessment Reports. During her visit, Sheinbaum was recognized for her achievements and learned about research from the Lab’s Energy Technologies Area and Earth and Environmental Sciences Area, including an update on Mexico Energy Initiative activities. The visit provided the opportunity to discuss and explore areas of engagement for the Lab in supporting the sustainability goals for Mexico City.
