Leadership Change Announcement From Michael Brandt, Deputy Lab Director for Operations

Dear colleagues,

I have a leadership change to announce that affects all of us. Michelle Scanlon, Chief Human Resources Officer, has resigned from her position at the Lab. Michelle has served as head of Human Resources for the past 15 months, and we thank her for her efforts. We wish her well in her future endeavors. Michelle Lee, Deputy Director for Human Resources, has agreed to serve as interim head of HR.

My vision for our entire Operations organization is to enable the success of our scientific mission by delivering operations and business services as valued partners. For the Human Resources Division, this is critical time on this journey. Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiative, now under way, seeks to systematically capitalize on the ideas, perspectives, and contributions of every person in our community, allowing us to operate and collaborate as one Lab. We have made recent progress, but these are only the beginning steps in what promises to be a difficult but rewarding culture change at the Lab. There is much more to do.

We’re also committed to recruiting and developing a more diverse workforce and improving career development programs for employees and leaders across the Lab. And we’re preparing to overhaul our digital HR systems, among other changes. Taken together, these efforts will positively alter the employee experience and build a stronger Lab with a healthy scientific culture. It will allow us to be a key partner in the Lab’s success.

We will begin the search for a new head of Human Resources immediately. This is a critical position at the Laboratory, for Human Resources touches each of us every day. Please give Michelle Lee and the entire HR team your support as we continue these important efforts.
