Red Cross #MissingType Blood Drive on June 21

According to the American Red Cross, fewer and fewer people are donating blood each year across all blood types, including types A, B, and O. “And without these main blood groups, we can’t save most people,” said Marissa Smithwick, a project coordinator in the Projects and Construction Office who coordinates the Lab’s Red Cross blood drives.

If you’d like to volunteer to give blood during this month’s Red Cross #MissingType donation drive, the Bloodmobile will be in the cafeteria parking lot this Thursday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Go here to schedule an appointment (sponsor code “LBL”); save time by using RapidPass. Walk-ins are also welcome.

  1. Marissa Smithwick says:

Diana, I’m sorry you’ve run into trouble donating in the past. It is frustrating to schedule an appointment and be turned away due to unforeseen circumstances. I passed your concerns along to the American Red Cross. We are looking into options for future drives to help improve donor experience. Thank you for being a blood donor!

  2. Diana Attia says:

As a regular blood donor, recently I have made appointments prior to the blood donation and each time I have shown up for the blood draw, they couldn’t take me because they were either understaffed or they took in too many walk-in’s. Rather frustrating and puts me off to this. I want to keep donating – but would appreciate them honoring the appointment.

Update: According to the Lab’s blood drive coordinator, the sign-up link is correct. As of now (~4:30 p.m. June 18), there is only one slot left (8:30 a.m.). Walk-ins are still welcome.

  4. TABL editor says:

That was the link submitted to us, but we’re checking with the Lab’s blood drive coordinator Marissa Smithwick to get more information. Feel free to contact her as well at [email protected]

Unable to find the blood drive on the site for 6/21. Cannot make an appointment.
