Women’s History Month: NERSC Computers Named After Pioneering Women

Two of NERSC’s supercomputers, Hopper and Cori, were named after pioneering and inspiring women in science. Grace Hopper (right), a Navy rear admiral, was at the forefront of computer programming. Biochemist Gerty Cori was the first American woman to win a Nobel Prize. Two other systems, no longer in service, were also named for women: Marie Curie and Laura Bassi.
