Change in Lab Security Services

PSPatchEffective Friday, July 1, the Lab’s security will be provided by Universal Protection Services. This change will result in a higher level of service as patrol officers will now hold certification as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). Universal will staff a 24/7/365 operations center that will answer the Lab’s incident reporting line (x6999) in addition to providing traditional services.

  1. Sad to see the old crew go, but welcome to our new colleagues!

You are the first faces of the lab to visitors and many of us, when we come up the hill your a welcoming and friendly and measured way to handle access is vital to the success of the lab as an open and sharing community.

  2. The Lab security staff will continue to issue notices of violations with regard to Lab parking policy. Only a law enforcement officer (UCBPD) can issue citations for violations of CA vehicle code (speeding, parked in fire lane, etc.). This is, and will continue to be, the practice for parking enforcement.

  3. Yes, a Communications Note on 4th of July firework watching at the Lab would be appreciated

  4. To be blunt, the level of service will be under significant scrutiny by all of us at the Lab.

  5. Will UPS officers be able to write traffic tickets? or will UCPD still perform traffic patrols?

  6. I assume they’ll be ready and trained for the influx of staff bringing family and friends up to the lab for fireworks viewing on the 4th of July?
