Wiki-Based, Searchable Policy Manual Now Available

The Lab’s restructured Requirements and Policies Manual (RPM) has been launched. The RPM captures Berkeley Lab and University of California policies that help define the framework for Laboratory operations. The restructuring puts all policies into a single location and allows the manual to be searched by keyword, A-Z listing, or by RPM section (i.e. “Conflict of Interest” or “Human Resources”), and includes a glossary of terms.

Each policy has three tabs: Brief, Policy, and Document Information (e.g., document number, publication date, etc). By the end of 2012, most policies from the old RPM will be in the Commons Wiki (about 45% are in the wiki now). Eventually we’ll add new features such as labels and “recent updates”.

We also moved EH&S policies from the Laboratory Safety and Health Manual (PUB-3000) and EH&S web sites into the new RPM. Read about the relationship between the RPM and PUB-3000 in the Document Hierarchy tab of the ES&H Core Policy.

To get started exploring the RPM, read “Tips for Searching the RPM” and “FAQ” notes both linked to on the RPM home page. Be sure to replace your bookmark with the new link.

The project to re-structure the RPM is part of the Laboratory’s Requirements Management Program. We want to thank the subject matter experts (SMEs) and the Requirements Management Committee (RMC) for their policy contributions. We also want to thank the tireless editors and web designers in the Creative Services Office (CSO) for managing the presentation and publication of the new RPM.

Comments, questions, and suggestions for improvement may be directed to any member of the RMC, or sent to requirementsmgmt@lbl.gov.
