Many employees requested an earlier opening for the Strawberry Canyon Gate—and Protective Services listened. Effective today, the gate will open at 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. The closing time remains at 8:00 p.m. This gate is closed on weekends.
Blackberry Gate will be closed from 6 p.m. tomorrow, June 8, through 7 p.m. on Sunday. Staff entering the Lab during that time must use Strawberry Gate, except those working in Building 88, who must use Blackberry gate. Pedestrians and cyclists walking their bikes can also enter via Blackberry Gate.
The Blackberry Gate will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. Access will be available to Building 88 employees only through Blackberry Gate only. Strawberry Gate will be opened during this time period. Detour signs will be in place directing traffic from Blackberry Strawberry Gate.
The Blackberry Gate will be closed to vehicular traffic, from 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, to 5: p.m. on Sunday, April 21. Signs will be posted directing vehicles to the Strawberry gate. Pedestrians and bicycles will be able to pass through the Blackberry Gate, though bicycles will need to walk through the construction area. Vehicle access is maintained for Building 88.
The inbound vehicle lane of the Grizzly Gate continues to be open from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays until further notice. The automated exit is operational 24/7. Pedestrians must use the adjacent side gates at all times, but cyclists can now enter through the vehicle lane (showing proper identification to the security guard) during the morning hours. Effective Dec. 12, the inbound lane of the Grizzly Gate will be open from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, and automated egress 24/7. Bicycles and pedestrians will be required to use the access gates at the side of each lane. The complete installation of License Plate Reader (LPR) technology at both the Grizzly and Blackberry Gates is scheduled for early next year. The physical infrastructure of the new Grizzly Gate is in place and is undergoing final testing. Normal operating conditions should be restored in the next week or two, with the inbound lane open from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, and automated egress 24/7. An announcement on the schedule change will be posted in TABL. The complete installation of License Plate Reader (LPR) technology at both the Grizzly Gate and the Blackberry Gate is scheduled for early next year. The University of California Police Department (UCPD) will be providing security services for the Lab and its satellite locations effective Thursday, Nov. 1. UCPD has effective capabilities, organization, and tools to fill the Lab’s security needs in an integrated way. Site access contact information has not changed, nor has the Blackberry Gate number for security issues (x5472). The Emergency Operations Center, to be contacted during emergencies, keeps the same number (x6666). In addition to an enhanced level of customer service, Security Officers will be wearing new uniforms.
Staring Monday, motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists can enter through Grizzly Gate from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. and exit from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Staff cannot exit from the gate during the morning hours or enter during the afternoon hours.
