The Site Access office will closed at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 4, for a special event. For site access emergencies during that time, call the Security Operations Center (x6999) or Nathan Keller (x4203).

Brief Traffic, Gate, Shuttle Bus Delays Today Due to Secretary Perry Visit

During Energy Secretary Rick Perry’s March 27 visit, Lab gates, shuttle buses, and specific roadways will be temporarily closed, stopped, or blocked, respectively, for short periods of time (approximately two to five minutes each). Employees are asked to exercise patience during these interruptions and follow instructions from Protective Services staff throughout the day.

Site Access Closing at 2 p.m. on Feb. 28

The Site Access Office, located in the Building 65A trailer, will close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, for a special event. The office will return to its normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For emergencies during that time, call the Security Operations Center at x6999 or Nathan Keller x4203.

Badge Required for Gate Access During Shutdown

Access to the Lab’s main campus during the shutdown will be restricted to Blackberry Gate and employees must show their valid Lab ID badge to enter (same protocol as during normal off-hours). Badge access information will also enhance Protective Services’ ability to conduct personnel accountability in the event of a major emergency.

To allow staff to attend training, the Site Access Office, located in the Building 65A trailer, will close at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, August 4. For emergencies during that time, call the SOC security office at x6999 or Justin Harty at x7928.

REAL ID Required for Lab Visitors in 2017

The Lab will implement REAL ID requirements for visitors to the Lab beginning in early 2017. REAL ID is a federal initiative that applies to state-issued driver’s licenses and ID cards. Visitors wishing to access the Lab will need to show REAL ID compliant identification or an acceptable alternative, as defined by the federal government. More>

The Site Access Office, located in Building 65A, will be open from 8 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5. The office will return to its normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 8. Those needing immediate assistance during this time can call Protective Services (x6160).

Advisory Group Proposes Affordable Solutions for Parking Congestion

At its March 1 and 14 meetings, the Vehicle Access and Alternative Transportation Advisory Group worked on a proposal to increase carpooling incentives, and discussed a new bike-trailer program. The Lab anticipates the loss of nearly 300 onsite parking spots when construction for the new Integrative Genomics Building begins this summer. More>

Lab Advisory Group Tackles Vehicle Congestion on the Hill

The new Vehicle Access and Alternative Transportation Advisory Group is working on potential solutions to the Lab’s growing population on the main site and to hold off near-term vehicle access fees. Nearly 300 parking spots are projected to be lost this summer. A new website, commute.lbl.gov has been launched to house information and updates on this project. More>
