State’s New ‘Three Feet for Safety Law’ Takes Affect Sept. 16

41unyD1EBnL._SY300_Starting Sept. 16, jurisdictions throughout the state, including UCPD, will be enforcing the Three Feet for Safety Law. Simply put, this law requires drivers to pass a bicycle traveling in the same direction at a distance of at least three feet. If passing at that distance is not possible, the driver may only pass at a speed that doesn’t interfere with the safe operation of the bicycle. Drivers must account for size of their vehicle, traffic conditions, weather, visibility, and the width of the road when passing.
