Showcase Your Creativity at Pumpkin Carving Contest

With Halloween just around the corner, the Guest House and Lab Café are sponsoring the Lab’s first-ever pumpkin-carving contest. Employees can pick up pumpkins from the cafeteria lobby on Monday, Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or contact the Guest House for delivery). Participants will have three days to design and carve their pumpkins (science motifs especially welcome), and must bring them back to the lobby on Thursday, Oct. 28, between 10 a.m. and noon. Staff can come by to vote from noon on Thursday until Friday at 1 p.m., when the winner will be announced. First place gets a free night’s stay in a studio suite at the Guest House and second place gets lunch for two at the Lab Café.

Gmail, Lab Website, LDAP Programs Down Tonight

Most Lab IT services including Gmail, the lbl.gov website, and all services which utilize the Lab’s LDAP username and password will be temporarily unavailable tonight, beginning at 6 p.m. and lasting for approximately one hour. When complete, the maintenance will increase the resiliency of key services in the event of a power outage. Incoming e-mail will be queued and delivered once service is restored. More>
