Lab Director Witherell to Give ‘State of the Lab’ Address June 25; Will Be Streamed Live

Lab Director Mike Witherell will present his annual “State of the Lab” address to employees on Monday, June 25, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Building 50 auditorium.

Among the topics he’ll cover is Stewardship of the Laboratory, a Lab-wide initiative that the Lab’s ALDs and Division Directors have recently committed to incorporating into their operations.

He’ll also discuss the Lab’s research and operations strategic priorities, as well as emerging projects. Among these are the planned ALS Upgrade, a number of infrastructure renewal and cleanup efforts, and the Biological & Environmental Program Integration Center (BioEPIC) – a proposed facility to study biological-environmental interactions across many scales. Witherell will also provide an update on the Lab’s budget.

The talk comes on the heels of Lab leadership’s presentation of the Annual Lab Plan to the Lab’s partners at DOE.

“The taxpayers have entrusted us with this unique resource, this Laboratory, and the critical projects we undertake on behalf of the nation are evidence of that trust,” said Witherell. “We are charged as stewards of the Lab, responsible for ensuring that its research, people, and resources are taken care of. We’ll talk about this responsibility.”

The talk will be live-streamed here for those who can’t attend in person.

Witherell will take a selection of questions from both live and virtual audiences following his prepared remarks. Question can be submitted during the presentation at communications@lbl.gov.
