Director Witherell discusses research priorities with Strategic Growth Council Executive Director Randall Winston.

On Monday, Berkeley Lab Director Mike Witherell hosted leaders of California’s Strategic Growth Council and Bay Area universities and national labs to discuss the Council’s draft plan governing $11 million in climate- and energy-related research funding. The new program represents the first time that California’s greenhouse gas reduction fund revenues will be used to support research, including research on adaptation and resilience. Council Executive Director Randall Winston and Office of Planning and Research Deputy Director Louise Bedsworth described the Council’s priorities and objectives, which include research on protecting the land carbon sink, assisting vulnerable populations, and supporting community emission reduction efforts.
