Fire Prevention Day Activities on Oct. 10

The Berkeley Lab Fire Marshal’s Office will host a Fire Prevention Day event on Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the cafeteria parking lot. Fire Prevention Day activities include a fire safety trailer designed to demonstrate the dangerous effects of smoke in a fire and strategies to escape.

Virtual fire extinguisher training will also be offered. Fire prevention handouts will be available, and the Alameda County Fire Department will be in attendance.

The Oct. 10 event coincides with National Fire Prevention Week, which was first proclaimed in 1925 by President Calvin Coolidge to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week – “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out! – aims to reinforce the need for everyone to have an escape plan no matter where they are, whether they are at home or at work. Watch this fire safety video to learn more.
