NSD’s Jacak Makes Case for a Next-Gen Particle Collider

Nuclear Science Division Director Barbara Jacak spoke during an American Physical Society meeting about a mysterious, frictionless fluid known as the quark gluon plasma, created by colliding the nuclei of heavy atoms. She noted how data from these collisions suggest that other exotic conditions, such as those found in ultra-cold atoms, may also produce droplets with similar properties, and a new type of particle collider could help us unravel the mechanisms for how these plasmas form.
