New Results from Daya Bay: Tracking the Mysterious Neutrino

Answers to some of the universe’s best kept secrets might be found in the oscillations of neutrinos, those shape-shifting, ghostlike particles that change into other “flavors” as they travel through solid rock or vast distances of interstellar space. Berkeley Lab physicists are major contributors to the international Daya Bay Collaboration, an ambitious neutrino science experiment taking place outside of Hong Kong. Berkeley Lab’s Kam-Biu Luk of the Physics Division is co-spokesperson for the Collaboration, which just released new results about neutrino transformations, including first data on how neutrino oscillation varies with neutrino energy.
