Paul Alivisatos praised the agreement reached by the State of California on Friday, which frees some $100 million in funding for a statewide network of charging stations for zero emission vehicles. “One of the challenges with current electric vehicles is ‘range anxiety.’ Deploying an extensive recharging infrastructure is an important step if electric vehicles are to be adopted more widely,” said Alivisatos. “Moving our transportation system away from carbon-based fuels is an essential step towards a sustainable and secure energy future.” Berkeley Lab runs the BATT (Batteries for Advanced Transportation Technologies) program, which develops high-performance, rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs).
