Members of the Lab’s Women Scientists and Engineers Council recently participated in the “Expanding Your Horizons” conference on the San Francisco State University campus. The Horizons group encourages young women to pursue science, technology, engineering and math careers. The event brought nearly 45 girls from middle and high school to participate. Lab volunteers, including Ina Reichel of AFRD (far right), Teresa Bixby of Chemical Sciences (2nd from left), Michele Dunleavy of the IT Division (far left) and Veronica Nero (HR), conducted two hands-on optics workshops that explored how light bounces off a mirror, how to construct an obstacle course for light, and how to investigate “invisible light.”
