Lab, Campus Collaborate in Formation of Synthetic Biology Institute

Researchers at UC Berkeley and Berkeley Lab have formed the UC Berkeley Synthetic Biology Institute (SBI), advancing efforts to engineer cells and biological systems in ways that can transform technology in health and medicine, energy, the environment, and new materials. SBI is broadly interdisciplinary, with 33 faculty and scientists from eight academic departments at Berkeley and four divisions at Berkeley Lab. SBI director Adam Arkin is also director of the Lab’s Physical Biosciences Division, and Douglas Clark (PBD), is associate director. More>
